Microsoft has created a new tool, Spindex, that aims to manage and aggregate social media information.

Unlike other aggregation tools, Spindex works on the basis of personalized trending topics. Via Bing, it seeks out useful information based on users' interest in their friends' messages and comments.

"It lets you find out more about the topics that your friends and feeds are talking about in one click - so you can jump into the conversation," says Microsoft - so expect to see a lot of your friends suddenly becoming knowedgeable about the most surprising things.

It includes a social feed stream, supports RSS as well as Twitter, Facebook, Bing and Evernote, and allows items to be bookmarked for future reference.

"As you increasingly tweet, post to Facebook, and capture ideas with tools like Evernote, we want to help you get the most out of your social activity by exposing the right information, at the right time, in a way that’s meaningful," says Lili Cheng, general manager of Microsoft's Fuse Labs.

"Spindex, which we’re making available in early technical preview form, aggregates your social streams (Facebook, Twitter, Bing, et cetera), making it simple for you to find what’s new, see personalized trending topics, and generally make the most of the time you spend being social on the web."

Spindex is currently in a closed beta, here, but should be expanding soon.
It requires a Microsoft Live account.
