Just before and just after the end of 2009 there were two reports of HTC working on a tablet PC. The first was an Android device sporting two displays setup in the same way as the Nook rather than in a book format. The second rumor predicted a “family of tablets” being launched at CES which used Google’s Chrome OS.
Neither rumor seems to have panned out, but what has been confirmed is HTC were working on a tablet. That news comes straight from HTC via their sales and marketing director for Australia and New Zealand, Anthony Petts. He stated that a tablet device was in development, but a decision was taken to stop for the moment and refocus on smartphones.
Petts comments were made during the launch of the HD2 Smartphone in Australia and gives a clearer idea of where the company’s priorities lie for the future. That includes the eight killer HTC phones we previewed last year.
