FaceTime is already available to use on your iPhone 4 and iPod touch, but until now the Mac version has been in a long 4-month beta. Today, alongside the unveiling of the new MacBook Pro range, FaceTime for Mac exited beta and appeared on the Mac App Store.
It may surprise a few people to find FaceTime is not free for Mac. You have to pay $0.99 to get it, but in return you can have video chats with friends and family on a much bigger screen. Depending on who you are talking to that could make the less-than-a-dollar app worth it.

Once installed all you need to supply is your Apple ID and you can talk to someone on an iPhone, iPod touch, or another Mac. Video streams can be up to 720p and the on-screen controls fade away so as to allow you to focus on the video and the conversation.
One nice feature is the ability for FaceTime to ring your Mac with an incoming call even if it isn’t loaded. If you have multiple Mac at home it will make them all ring so you can access it on the most convenient one for you.
