Some fans may love Samsung’s new TouchWiz features in the Galaxy S4 flagship, but these same features are to be blamed for the update woes of Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 users. Samsung’s two high-end smartphones from 2012 are still stuck on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, which despite bringing some very desirable performance fixes and features to the phones, is not the latest version of the OS.

SamMobile, the blog dedicated to all-things-Samsung, tweeted that the Korean company is facing issues with implementing some of the newer TouchWiz features in the older smartphones. This had led to a delay in the rollout of Android 4.2.2 to the phones. It must be noted that both the S3 and Note 2 still boast great hardware that can compete with the latest out there, if not best them. As a result, aftermarket Android 4.2.2 ROMs for the S3 and Note 2 are dime-a-dozen. So users do have an option of getting the latest version. However, an official update will be beneficial for the less tech-savvy users.

S3 still stuck on Android 4.2.1

Samsung had announced at the time of the Galaxy S4 unveiling that the new TouchWiz features will be coming soon to the Note 2 and Galaxy S3. This included a bunch of new camera-related features such as Drama Shot, Sound & Shot, as well as the new implementation of Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Pause and Smart Scroll. In addition, the new S-Health app will also be making an appearance on the two older phones. Critics have termed some of these features as gimmicks, but it would still make users happy to be able to use them from time-to-time.
