What is Yug?

According to Hinduism Earth/mankind goes through 4 yugs - Satyug, Treta yug, Dwapar yug & Kaliyug. Cosmic environment is the best of supports for mankind to rise to its highest potential in the Satyug and then it keeps falling lower. In Kaliyug cosmos is just not supporting us much. So much so that in the Kaliyug peak man can’t even meditate – hence Krishna had said that in kaliyug people need to be shown path of Bhakti. Through this they can become spiritual. Even Jains confirm this

These yugs are cyclical. As in Satyug-Tretayug-Dwapar-Kali-Kali-Dwapar-Treta-Sat-Sat-Treta and so on…. Many people think that after every Kaliyug there is an apocalypse, this isn’t true at all. There is also another time cycle – after every xx number of years the world ends but that is a different countdown. First we need to understand how long these yugs are.

In Hinduism, Rama is said to be born in the Treta yug. Recent research has provided very strong reasons for that date to be 5114BC. Note that some sources date Ramayana to have been written even more recently – like around 400BC which acc to me is heresay

Then comes Krishna who is known to have been in the Dwapar yug. His birth is found to be around 3112BC & the death of Krishna marks the end of Dwapar and the start of Kali which is stated around 3102BC (hundred years later). So we are saying that 5114BC is Treta and 3102BC is Kaliyug. Dwapar over in between.

Conclusion: Each yug is about 2 thousand years old.

So by this calculation we can say that Kaliyug would not be more than 5000 years long (as there would be two Kaliyugs as discussed in the yug cycle above). 3102BC +2014 = 5114 years have passed already. So we are clearly in Dwapar yug. As per Sadhguru we are actually almost at end of Dwapar, while according to Sri Yukteshwar i.e. Paramhansa’s guru we are midway into it.

It's colloquialism. The no '36' argument. It's characteristic of spoken or written communication
that seeks to imitate informal speech.

For example my mother always says, " chhatti baar keha par sun-na naheen..."

Other examples:

including living beings, down to the physical reality.

Hinduism often symbolically represents morality (dharma) as a bull. In Satya Yuga, d first stage
of development, d bull has 4 legs, bt in each age morality is reduced by one quarter. By d age of
Kali, morality is reduced to only a quarter of dat of the golden age, so dat the bull of Dharma
has only one leg.

In Sikhism, Kali Yuga is metaphorically used to describe d state of d world as was commonly
understood in d 16th century. It is stressed dat one should meditate as much as possible
to reach d state of Nirvana n be liberated or be one wid God.

Now, the Dark Age of Kali Yuga has come.
Plant the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.
It is not the season to plant other seeds.
Do not wander lost in doubt and delusion.

Oh sach yug to cheta aaya

In Hanuman Chalisa, it is said : "Yug sahastra yojan per Bhanu! Leelyo taahi madhur phal janu!!

In mathematical expression:
1 Yug = 12000 years
1 Sahastra = 1000
1 Yojan = 8 Miles
Yug x Sahastra x Yojan = par Bhanu
12000 x 1000 x 8 miles = 96000000 miles
1 mile = 1.6kms
96000000 miles = 96000000 x 1.6kms = 1536000000 kms to Sun.. (152M KMS) as per wikipedia

NASA has said that, it is the exact distance between Earth and Sun (Bhanu).

and It is believed that Hanuman did jump all the way to sun thinking it was a fruit

Hence yug is 12000 years

First of all answer about yug

Bhai Gurdas shows the dialogue continuing in the 49th Pauri where the sixth Guru mentions that according to the Hindu faith Vasudev, Rama and Krishan came in Sat, Treta and Duaapar Yugs (ages) respectively and then says:

ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਗਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਲਾਵੈ । ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਗੇ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਪੰਚਾਇਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਵੈ ।

In Kalyug (the present ‘dark’age) it will be from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind (Singh) reciting the name of the Master. After these four, the spirit would merge back into the Creator (Vaar 1, Pauri 49).

Through 8.4 million incarnations, people wander lost; in stubborn-mindedness, they come and go.

The Chaurasi Lakh Joon refers to the 8,400,000 lifetimes/lifeforms that exist on the Planet Earth as viewed by Sikhs, 4.2 million of which are on land and the same number in water.
After entering the Chaurasi Lakh Joon, there is no actual way to come out. It could take years and years to complete this cycle. Once the cycle is complete, one gets a chance to become human again and release themselves from this world by chanting "Waheguru" (God's name) repeatedly. Some believe that for Sikhs, there is one way to make sure one will not enter the cycle, and that is performing the Japji Sahib paath 84 times on each one of the steps at the Shri Baoli Sahib Goindwal Sahib.
This only releases you from the cycle and not the world. In other words, this gives you another birth as a human after you die. Every year, millions and millions of Sikhs visit this Holy Shrine, some of which are there to take a bath in the holy waters of the well, and others which are there to release themselves from the cycle and give themselves another chance if they do not release themselves from the world in their current birth.
It is a good experience but indeed very tough. Not as tough as the Chaurasi Lakh Joon, though. It is recommended to everyone and there are barely no requirements except for knowledge of the Japji Sahib paath.
