SPECIAL GOODS TRAINS TO MOVE WHEAT OUT OF PUNJAB

The Punjab Government has made special arrangements with the Railways for moving the wheat stocks piled up in Punjab to FCI storage centres outside the state.

A total of 256 special goods trains will move only the wheat stocks from the state. These include the trains which were to move out the rice stocks will now move the wheat stocks. This was disclosed here today by Chief Ministers, Principal Secretarym Darbara Guru while talking to mediapersons after supervising the wheat procurement in the mandis of the district.

He inspected the procurement arrangements at the grain markets of Kapurthala, Fattudhinga, Talwandi Chaudhrian and Thatha Tibba. He disclosed that more than 78 lakh tonnes of wheat had arrived in 1647 procurement centres in the Punjab till yesterday.

He directed Deputy Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary to conduct an inquiry into the complaint of farmer Kanshi Ram against the procurement agencies for not purchasing his wheat for the past two days. Kanshi Ram lodged a complaint with the Principal Secretary during his visit to procurement centre at village Talwandi Chaudhrian. The DC formed a committee under the chairmanship of Sultanpur Lodhi SDM to conduct the inquiry and report immediately.
