SDM'S READER HELD TAKING BRIBE

Ropar SDM’s reader Nirmal Singh was caught taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a farmer Harinder Singh, resident of village Doom Chheri.
In his complaint to the vigilance burearu, Harinder Singh told the police that his 3.5 acres of land had been acquired by the government for the Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line. For this, he had already been given compensation of Rs 54 lakh in the first installment, Rs 13.48 lakh in the second and today the reader Nirmal Singh was to give him third cheque of Rs 89,839.
Nirmal Singh asked for Rs 20,000 as bribe from Harinder Singh in lieu of the third cheque. The matter was settled at Rs 10,000 about which Harinder Singh informed the vigilance bureau. DSP, vigilance, Banarsi Dass caught Nirmal Singh red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
