Cutting across the Party line, motor-mouthed BJP Member Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu here shot at letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for drawing his attention towards the illegal construction around the Harmandir (Golden Temple), which is destroying the rich heritage of holy shrine.
Sihdu said that only Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal could save the pristine glory of holy Sikh shrine Golden Temple. Since, certain buildings, structures, glow signs etc. that has sprung up recently and are visible all around, from inside the Golden Temple. Sidhu said that unwanted and unholy structure have become an eyesore which divert the attention of the devotees, affect the scenic and serene ambience, thereby depleting the visual prominence of the magnificent holy temple of Harimandir Sahib.
Lashing at Punjab Government being run by the BJP -SAD alliance, Sidhu said, "It is a gross violation of heritage rules and immediate preventive mechanism needs to be set up to protect the dignity and divine status of the richest heritage of the Sikhs". Sidhu said, he would request the Punjab Government with folded hands to issue a notification-putting ban on illegal construction activity around Golden Temple and issue directions to the concerned authorities to maintain sanctity in the vicinity of the Golden Temple.
Sidhu said that committee of experts to be formed, which should look into the aspects so that old glory of the rich heritage of Golden Temple could be restored and preserved. It is noteworthy here that certain hoteliers having close proximity with the people sitting in the power corridor have raised the structure of their hotels beyond the prescribed height fixed by the Municipal Corporation. All hotels around Golden Temple are visible from the marbled periphery of the holy Shrine and apparently attract the attention of devotees when they visit to pay obeisance.
Nearly one-lakh devotees on daily basis visit here across the nation to pay obeisance at Golden Temple. The illegal structure raised by the influential people was never objected by the SGPC (Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) management body of the Golden Temple allegedly enjoys warms relations with them.
