New Delhi: Leading Muslim organisation Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind yesterday asked people to practise restraint in their reaction to the Ayodhya verdict and said that, given the sensitivity of the issue, it was not appropriate to take hasty decisions.

"According to the teachings of the Quran, we should try to seek the positive out of apparently negative things," an official statement quoted Rajya Sabha MP and Jamiat leader Maulana Mahmoud Madani.

Urging leaders to avoid expressing individual viewpoints on this subject, Madani, a Rashtriya Lok Dal MP from Uttar Pradesh, said: "There is need to study the judgment first in detail and hold a meeting of all Muslim groups to arrive at a consensus on the future course of action [on the verdict].

"We are firm to act upon whatever unanimous decision will be taken by them."
