An IPS officer was caught cheating while appearing for his LLB exams. He had got some points scribbled on his footrule. Nine others were caught cheating from this exam centre.

The incident took place on Friday, when examinations for the LLB (first year) were being conducted at various centres across the city. At the Siddharth Law College, Gandhinagar, one of the LLB first year exam centres, a surprise check was being conducted by a team of invigilators.

Students appearing for their exams in banking subject came under the scanner. During the round of random checking at the college the senior IPS officer who has got many sensational investigations to his credit was caught by the invigilation squad.

The team noticed something suspicious and approached the officer. He had some points scribbled on his footrule. Among the rest, some had notes written on forearms, some on their dupatta and even handkerchief.

All the cheats were caught and their answersheets were taken back. But, after half-an-hour though the students were allowed to resume exams, especially after the officer in question pulled some strings and raised a hue and cry over the issue.

Senior officials of the examination department of the Gujarat University confirmed: "A senior IPS officer was caught cheating, but we are yet to receive the report from the invigilation team. Without the report, we cannot say for sure who was officer."

MS Gharekhan, principal in-charge, said: "A total of 10 examinees were caught resorting to illegal practices inside the exam hall. All of these examinees were penalised for 30 minutes, after which they were allowed to resume. This penalty would be enough to teach them a lesson."
