A richer, more immersive web is coming.
Be one of the first to see what’s new in Internet Explorer 9.

Microsoft is poised to release Internet Explorer 9 to beta today after months of hyping
it up as the software giant's fastest browser yet.

IE9, as Microsoft boasts, supports hardware-accelerated graphics. That means it can
tap into a computer's graphics processing unit (GPU) to render complex visuals videos,
animations, whatever on a website.

IE9 also expands support for HTML5, the emerging Web standard Apple's Steve Jobs
loves to talk about. The browser's JavaScript engine, codenamed Chakra, also
delegates processing power to a computer's central processing unit (CPU).

Microsoft first unveiled IE9 last November at its Professional Developers Conference,
and has released a number of "platform previews" during the past 10 months.
Considering Microsoft just released Internet Explorer 8 during summer 2009, IE9 is
expected to be generally released next year.

And with that release may come a new look for IE -- a simpler, more stylized look.
Late last month, a screen shot leaked that showed a sleek new interface for IE9,
though it was never confirmed.
