Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who has been appointed co-convenor for the Congress’ September 20 rally in Delhi, today urged farmers of Delhi to beat the expected large turnout from his state.
The meeting of farmers’ representatives from Delhi was convened by former MP from Delhi Sajjan Kumar at Hooda’s suggestion. All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary PC Chacko and Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken were present at the meeting.
Hooda tried to engineer a “healthy” competition between farmers of Haryana and Delhi with regards their participation.
“The attendance from the two states will be keenly watched. It will be better for both states and the country, as it will give impetus to the Congress momentum against the NDA government,” he said.
Lacing his speech with humour, Hooda said: “Delhi’s people have complained in the past that crowds from Haryana grab sitting spaces at rallies organised here. Beware, as the crowds of Haryana will occupy the Ramlila Ground (venue for the event) two hours before the scheduled time (10 am).
“I do not want to see Maken leading a crowd of participants searching for place at the meeting in vain.”
Making an emotional pitch, he said there was a special and age-old bond between people of Haryana and Delhi. “The two regions have a great responsibility to make the rally a success,” Hooda added.
