A 14-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room at his residence at Saini Vihar, Baltana, here last night.
The victim, Lakshay Sharma, a student of Class IX, was reportedly miffed over “not getting” a full-sleeved shirt of his school uniform.
According to the police, in view of the dengue threat in the area, the school authorities had asked the students to wear full-sleeved shirts. “Lakshay could not get a shirt in Baltana, which left him agitated. His father counselled him last night and asked to skip the school for a day. He was pacified at that time. However, later he took the extreme step in his room,” said the police.
No suicide note was found from the spot.
According to his family and neighbours, Lakshay was intelligent and sensitive. “The news of his suicide has shocked us,” said a neighbour. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem.
