Rubbishing all reports of infighting within the party, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari affirmed that they were a tough opposition, giving Congress many a sleepless nights.

Speaking exclusively to Zeenews.com’s Swati Chaturvedi on her chat show Kahiye Janab, Nitin Gadkari defended the BJP and reiterated its strength as a disciplined party.

When asked about Uma Bharti’s return into the party fold, BJP president said that Uma had been a very sincere party worker and having contributed her best for the BJP, it was necessary to reabsorb her in the party.

“You have seen Mayawati’s Gundaraj and Mulayam’s Jungleraj in UttarPradesh. We want to establish Bhartiya Janata Party’s Ramraj now,” said Gadkari.

When asked about his opinion on BJP being dubbed as a heaven sent opposition for the UPA, Gadkari vehemently refuted the accusation and said that the BJP had been a tough opposition and played the role of a sturdy opponent at every possible occasion.

Buttressing his remark, he cited various examples when the BJP had stood up for a cause and raised the pitch against the government.

“Arun Jaitley was the first one to raise the issue of 2G scam in Parliament. It was the BJP which raised the voice against price rise… Sushma Swaraj battled against the appointment of PJ Thomas as CVC… We are a very tough opposition, giving Congress sleepless nights… So much so that now even if someone hurls shoes, Congress blames it on us,” said Nitin Gadkari.

On being specifically asked about the episode of Sushma Swaraj attacking Yeddyurappa and Arun Jaitley, Gadkari dodged the question saying that it was all misinterpreted by the media.

“I have seen the interview of Sushma Swaraj in the Outlook magazine. This is all media’s work. We are a very democratic party.”

Hinting at the Gandhi family, Gadkari said, “We are not a part of mother-sons and father-daughters … Ours is not a party where a single woman would take all the decisions and remaining all will kowtow.”

When asked about the incident of crackdown on Baba Ramdev at Ramlila Maidan, Nitin Gadkari slammed the Congress and expressed regret at the fact that peaceful protesters were injured while supporting Baba Ramdev in his fast against corruption.

“How could Congress dare to attack the unarmed and peaceful protesters?” said Gadkari.

But when asked, “Are you with Anna and Ramdev”, the BJP supremo simply said, “We are not with anyone. We are against corruption and black money in accordance with the principles of the Bhartiya Janata Party.”

Gadkari also supported Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa saying that there were no corruption charges against him.

“Is it corruption to notify a piece of land? Yeddyurappa has just notified a land… and unlike 2G and other cases there are no cases against him,” said Gadkari.

The BJP chief also threw his weight behind Bellary brothers, appreciating their contribution to the party in bad times, saying that there was not a single mine registered in their name in Karnataka.

Reinforcing his remarks about the BJP being a well organised and disciplined party Gadkari brushed aside all accounts of the clashes within and said, “I don’t know how this party was before I was the president. Now, the party is well united. Decisions are taken unanimously. We are principle opposition party as well as a democratic party and we have our focus against the Congress.”
