21 HURT IN FRESH CLASHES AS PROTESTORS DEFY CURFEW IN JAMMU

Jammu August 3:
Protestors demanding restoration of land to Amarnath board defied curfew restrictions and clashed with security forces at several places in Jammu and Samba districts where Army was called in to help the civil administration in maintaining law and order.
Twentyone people including two policemen were injured in fresh clashes during which two government vehicles were burnt. A house and an institute of two former MLAs in Jammu were attacked, official sources said.
Despite deployment of the Army, protestors came out at several places raising slogans against the government and demanding cancellation of revoked order on transfer of 40 hectares of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
They burnt two government vehicles in Shastri Nagar area and damaged the house of former PDP MLA Shanti Devi in Nanak Nagar. The academy of former Congress minister G.S. Charak was also attacked. In Samba district, a police tent was burnt by angry rioters. In Hiranagar area of Kathua district, a tehsil office was torched before police could control them. At least 13 protestors were injured.
Police resorted to cane-charge when some of them tried to block the national highway between Kalijani area in Kathua and Domail in Udhampur district. Eight people including two cops were wounded in the clash. At least 12 protestors were arrested when they pelted stones at vehicles passing by at Lakhanpur in Kathua.
