BR Chopra Funeral Ceremony

Film and TV veteran B.R. Chopra was cremated late this evening in Mumbai. Chopra who was 94 had been battling for life for the past few days and finally passed away on the morning of 5 November. The funeral pyre was lit by his son Ravi Chopra, who continues to spearhead BR Films. BR Chopra's younger brothers Yash Chopra and Dharam Chopra were also present at the cremation which was conducted according to Vedic rites.

The cremation ground close to Juhu's Pawan Hans was swamped with onlookers, TV crews and photographers as both film and TV associates attended the funeral: Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, Anupam Kher, Sawan Kumar Tak, Pankaj Dheer, Dheeraj Kumar, Moti Sagar, Poonam Sinha, among a host of others were present.

A filmmaker
par excellence, Chopra was honoured with the Indian government's highest honour to a film personality - the Dadasaheb Phalke Award - in 1998. He was also conferred with the National Citizen Award for the mythological TV epic "Mahabharat" and received the National Awards for other films. Indiantelevision.com conferred on him an Indian Telly Award for his Contribution to the television industry in 2005.

A condolence meeting is slated to be held at the Army Navy Club in Mumbai's Juhu area on 8 November between 5 and 6 pm.
