the importance of seva

i thought of sharing something with all unpians which was occuping my mind for a long time.

seva is a very important aspect of life.
seva is like breathing: everybody at one stage or another has to learn to serve other people.

your parents serve you when you are born.
the feed you, change your clothes, they play with you.
your teachers serve you by teaching you.
and then you serve your parents by keeping them happy when they grow old.

without seva we start living like animals: khana, peena, sou jaana ..
jey dujjo'n de kamm ni aana, ta kess de vaaste jeena?!!

apne le?

it's intresting ke all major world religions emphasize on seva.
especially eastern religions like sikhism, budhism, jainism and hinduism state how important seva is.

and middle eastern religions also hold seva in high esteem,
especially christianty.
christians go to other countries like africa and serve sick and poor people.
a famous example is mother teresa, who also did a lot of seva in india.

i would like to hear your thoughts on this topic and if somebody has quotes from holy sciptures then please post karna !! :y

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੀ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward, shall attain his Lord and Master.

ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ ਤਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
In the midst of this world, do seva, and you shall be given a place of honor in the Court of the Lord

Sewa is a selfless service of others without expecting anything in return and to put the needs of others before yourself. Our Guru’s have made it one of the fundamental basis of Sikhi.

All Sikhs are encouraged by their Guru (Guru Granth Sahib) to perform Seva or Selfless Service. This is not only good for community relations but also is good for the moral uplifting of the person.

Quotes from Guru Granth Sahibji Maharaj signifying the importance of sewa:

Whoever has good destiny inscribed on his forehead, applies himself to seva - selfless service.
SGGSji pg 1142 line 4

you shall find peace, doing seva (selfless service).
SGGSji pg 25 line 19

* Cursed are the hands and feet that do not engage in seva” (Bhai Gurdas, Varan, 27.1).

A Prime example of sewa is Bhai Kanhayiya ji, who did selfless service on the battlefield and was giving water to drink for everyone wounded in the war. Now thats an example of selfless sewa.
