Rupee up 7 paise at 46.57 a dollar

The Indian rupee today strengthened by 7 paise to 46.57 a dollar against in early trade on hopes of fresh capital inflows into equity
markets in line with firming trends on the Asian markets

The dollar's losses against other regional currencies too supported the Indian rupee.

Yesterday, the rupee ended 11 paise lower at 46.64/65. Dealers said expectations of capital inflows into domestic equities which may open higher in tandem with other Asian markets and dollar's weakness against other currencies, mainly supported the Indian rupee.

Asian markets were up almost 1.6% in early trade

Rupee down 20 paise at 46.73 a dollar
The rupee on Monday depreciated by 20 paise to 46.73 against the US dollar in opening trade largely on fears of fresh capital outflows of foreign funds amid a bearish trend in other Asian markets.

However, dollar's losses against some currencies, limited the fall in the local unit.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit traded 20 paise down at 46.73 a dollar. The rupee had ended 11 paise higher at 46.53/54 against the dollar in the previous session on Friday.

Forex dealers said the expectations of fresh capital outflows by foreign funds following a weak Asian market, which was down up to 1.20 per cent in the morning trade today, mainly weighed on the rupee
