World Bank is about to provide financial assistance $500 million loan for water supply and sanitation projects in the rural areas of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. The project will be implemented above six-year period. Under the ongoing National Rural Drinking Water Program in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MoDWS), the project will support the design and implementation of a dedicated RWSS program for low income states. Over 33 districts in Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam and Uttar Pradesh will be covered in the first phase of the project. A credit from the International Development Association (IDA) will finance the project which provides interest-free loans with 25 years till maturity and grace period of five years.

In order to finance students pursuing Chartered Accountancy (CA), Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) the first all-women bank has signed MoU with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Also MoU has been signed with ICAI to finance members of ICAI for practicing CA for setting up offices. To encourage women professionals to take up practice as CA, 1% concession in the rate of interest will offer to girl students pursuing CA to set up practice.

Krishi Vasant 2014 will be hosted by Nagpur which will be organised by the Government of Maharashtra and Union Government in partnership with CII. The event will be held between February 9 and 13. President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the event which will be the biggest ever gathering of farmers from all over the country, State Governments , agro-industries, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, research organisations, stakeholders and Financial Institutions. More than over 300 live demonstration plots of oilseeds, cereals, fodder, pulses, fibre-crops and vegetables while best quality poultry, fish and animals will also be on display.

The 75th Senior National Table Tennis Championship has started on Tuesday. The 6 day long championship which was held at Patiputra sports complex in Patna. Altogether 34 men and 30 women teams including top men’s players Sharad Kamal and Soumojit Ghosh will participate in the tournament. The winners of the singles event will get the chance of selection in the Indian team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games which will be held in Scotland and also in Asian games which will be held in South Korea.

Indian captain and skipper MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina will soon launch 7 Premier League in Dubai. The league will feature teams from 7 Countries Pakistan, India, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia. Seven teams will play the league and each will represent the seven UAE emirates. The tournament will commence in March 2014. The venue for league will be both outdoors as well as indoor in Dubai. Dhoni is the chief brand ambassador of the league. The quarterfinals, semi-finals and the final will be played outdoors.

The Hockey World League trophy was unveiled recently. The 2 year long journey of the new Hockey World League ended with the 8 team World League Final which started at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi. The hockey tournament is the first hockey event of 2014.

Because of the Gulf country’s summer heat, the 2022 football World Cup which was to be held in Qatar will not start from June or July slot. The world cup tournament may kick start between November 15 and January, disclosed Jerome Valcke, General Secretary of FIFA.

Ranji Trophy Cricket tournament’s quarterfinal matches were started from Wednesday which was held in Mumbai. On the January 18, the semi-finals will take place while the finals will be held on February 2. Defending champions Mumbai will face group C toppers Maharashtra in Mumbai. Bengal will beat Tamil Nadu at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata while Karnataka will face Uttar Pradesh in Bangalore and Punjab will face Jammu and Kashmir in Vadodara. For the first time, Jammu & Kashmir is going to participate in Ranji Trophy Cricket tournament.
