The Oil India Limited (OIL), the Energy major has signed a deal with the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) to conduct a feasibility study on dairy production in two districts of Assam. As a CSR initiative, Oil India has decided to step into dairy sector. After the study in the two districts Dibrugarh and Tinsukia of Assam, IRMA will prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Oil India Limited (OIL) has planned to develop the project on the lines of the Amul model.
The Tamil Nadu Government has launched free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb scheme. The first phase of the Rs 8.77-crore project provided free CFL bulbs, an energy saving measure aimed at saving 40 MW of power to over 14 lakh hut-dwellers in Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has also launched above Rs 500-crore worth of projects under the Energy Department through video conferencing. The scheme was launched with an objective to promote power-saving in state. Out of 14.62 lakh domestic consumers, seven lakh of the hut-dwellers will be covered under the first phase.
In order to end VIP culture, the government in Delhi Aam Admi Party (AAP) has decided that Delhi Ministers and officials will not use red beacon. During the first cabinet meeting presided by Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal, this decision was taken. Also Ministers and officials will not get any Personal Security Officer and escort vehicles.
The new Lokayukta legislation will be enacted in the congress ruled states by 28 February 2014. This decision was taken during a meeting of the Chief Ministers of party ruled states in New Delhi. Rahul Gandhi, the Vice President of Congress chaired the meeting. The legislation act will enable the farmers to sell out the products at a place of their choice and as the prices of the products will be less, this will bring back benefits the consumers. By 15 January 2014, the Congress ruled states will start de-list fruits and vegetables from their Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act and to deal strictly with hoarding, black marketing and profiteering, Congress will also invoke the Essential Commodities Act.

P Pradeep Kumar has been appointed as new Managing Director (Corporate Banking) of the biggest lender of the country, State Bank of India (SBI). He will be one of the four MDs and will look after the corporate banking portfolio of SBI. He is now serving as MD and Group Executive (Corporate Banking) of SBI. He will occupy the position till the end of October 2015. Earlier, Kumar has served as Managing Director of State Bank of Travancore.

The 44-year-old seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is in critical condition as he is in coma after striking his head during France ski accident. The German Formula One champion Schumacher who retired in 2012 in the Brazilian Grand Prix was skiing in his resort and he fell and hit his head on a rock. South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has become the third highest run-getter in Test cricket. He surpassed former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid and made this record in his farewell match after a 115-run knock against India. Kallis is considered the best all-rounder in modern cricket and he will be retiring from Test cricket at the end of the ongoing second and final game against India. He has scored 13,289 runs in the longest format, Test cricket.
Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Open Tennis tournament has commenced in Chennai. Veteran player like Italian Fabio Fognini and Russian Mikhail Youzhny is in competition with top seed Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka. India’s top Singles player Yuki Bhambri, Somdev Devvarman and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan have already made it to the main draw. In the Doubles, Purav Raja, Leander Paes, Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna will be seen in full actions and Spanish pair of Pablo Carreno Busta and Albert Ramos will clash with the Indo-Russian duo of Saketh Myneni and Karen Khachanov. Also in the Singles first round, Czech Jiri Vesely will beat Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.
Swiss professional tennis player Roger Federer will get training from the former Swedish tennis player Stefan Edberg who will join coaching team of Federer in 2014. Edberg will join the long-time coach Severin Luthi as part of Federer’s team before the start of Australian Open in 2014. Edberg will train Federer for a short period of time across the year and also Luthi the person who is currently training Federer for past 7 years will coach him for the most time.
