The first trial run of a rail engine was witnessed by Arunachal Pradesh which was of 20-km from Harmutty, Lakhimpur district, Assam to Itanagar. Arunachal Pradesh has also demanded the construction of 161-km Tinsukia – Parsuram Kund rail line to facilitate tourists from all over India to put the sacred place in global tourism map.

Awards & Honours
For his second novel “Vanity Bagh”, Kerala-based writer Anees Salim has grabbed the Hindu Prize for Best Fiction 2013 for his consistent writing, imagination and humour. It’s worth mentioning that Vanity Bagh is also called a Little Pakistan. The prize comprises a cash component of Rs. 5 lakh and a plaque. Earlier, Manu Joseph has grabbed the first The Hindu Prize for Best Fiction in 2010 for his debut novel “Serious Men”. The Hindu Prize for Best Fiction sees the contribution of Indian writers to literary culture.

Appointment
Anand Sinha, the deputy governor has been appointed as an advisor for 3 months of The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after retirement as deputy governor of RBI. For the first time an RBI deputy governor will get an advisory role after retirement.
Akhilesh Das Gupta is all set to be re-elected as the president of Badminton Association of India (BAI). He remained the only candidate for this desirable post at the end of the filing of the nominations for the post. Also another news is that Vijai Sinha, General Secretary (GS) will will play second inning as he will also be re-elected unopposed during the Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold Tournament.

Death
Namdeo Dhasal, an eminent Marathi poet and activist has recently passed away in Mumbai after the prolonged illness. The Padma Shri awardee has died at the age of 64 and was battling with colorectal cancer. In 2004, he was awarded with the prestigious Sahitya Akadami award for his immense contribution to literature and has also received Nehru award for his book ‘Golpitha’. He was one of the founders of the militant Dalit Panther movement and was also a pioneer of the Dalit literature movement. Dhasal’s poem “Namdeo Dhasal: Poet of the Underworld”, were translated into English.

P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have won opening round of women’s singles matches of the Malaysia Super Series Premier with the whopping amount USD 5, 00,000. The eighth seeded Saina crushed Indonesia based Hera Desi 21-10, 21-16 while Sindhu defeated her old foe Indonesian Lindaweni Fanetri and fought very hard with 21-17, 21-18.
US based Jimmy Walker has clinched Sony Open Golf tournament which was held in Hawaii. It’s hiss second PGA Tour title. In October 2013, he won his first PGA Tour title the Frys.com Open which is the first tournament of the new season. Walker crushed Chris Kirk with 7-under 63 and has won 1.08 million dollars as a prize money. The tour is the organizer of the professional golf tours that is played by the men in United States and North America.
Australia crushed India with 7-2 in the fourth and final quarter-final of the Hockey World League Final at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. India scored two goals through Birendra Lakra and Yuvraj Walmiki. India has taken their chances and has attacked from both wings but the Australian team’s defence had proved to be too strong for the Indian forwards to breach.
Spain, World and European champion has retained its number one place in top 25 lists in FIFA world rankings. The ranking was issued after a month when only 18 international countries played. Germany secured second place while Argentina stood at third place. Colombia and Portugal remained on fourth and fifth place respectively. World Cup host Brazil is at 10th place while the United States holds 14th place. Surprisingly Egypt has made the biggest move while jumping 10 places to No. 31.
