According to me, for some courses Dress Code should be mandatory. For some courses it should be required. Many courses can escape from dress code.
For example:
It should be mandatory for medical labs(gloves, apron etc), field activity for mining, civil engg students (safety gears etc), lab activity for electrical lab (shock absorbers etc), pilots (flying gear) etc.

dress should be compulsary for colleges as it will create an atmosphere of similarity.
Without dress there is like a competition of branded clothes/shoes and accessories( exp from engg colleges specially), it creates a sense of inferiority in students whose family finds it difficult to afford these luxuries.

Deep 22 Ji, we cannot avoid this complex, it comes from inside.
No one can make you feel inferior untill you allow to.

I think college students shud b asked[not exactly forced] to wear uniforms coz some ppl dont have a gr8 sense of dressing... So it makes them feel kindda awkward & also like Deep 22g said....Some ppl cant afford it too...Also, some make fun of others for wearing formals or a particular type of dress...So....College students shud b asked to wear uniforms...It gives a sense of equality I must say...

Uniforms are good as they create a sense of uniformity among students.
Otherwise there is competition of branded clothings. We shouldn't follow the west....and allow everything. I think uniform takes the more "expensive clothing makes a man" thing out of the equation.

medical ya koi vi labs ch gloves and apron te paane hi pende aa...even in our lab we can't enter widout safety goggles (which i hate vaise
) but i think apart from creating a sense of equality, they are more for self-safety. U wudn't want contamination of dangerous bacteria or smthg or sm chemicals ruining ur clothes
