A letter to Prime Minister..

Pakistan has two basic tendencies; an explosive tendency and an implosive tendency.
When the explosive tendency dominates, Pakistan exports violence to other regions
of the world. As India and Afghanistan are right next to it, they have faced the brunt of
this. If the implosive tendency dominates, Pakistani society chews itself up, it attacks
its own institutions and people. The phases dominated by implosive and explosive
tendencies occur in a cyclic fashion.

In each implosive phase, fearing the complete collapse of Pakistani society, the west
pours resources into Pakistan. This sudden rush of resources in some way engineers
the next explosive phase.

After having given this more thought, I feel I should add the following:
The implosive phase usually moves along internal communal and sectarian lines.
In this phase the machinery of the state is used to systematically suppress the rights
of the minorities in Pakistan.

The explosive phase usually radiates along Pan-Islamic lines. Pan-Islam is not new to
the region, it was the driving force behind the military expansion of the Abbasid Khilafat,
it was the vehicle for numerous `revivals' in the regions subcontinental Islamic communities,
and it was a convenient tool in the hands of wily politicians since the time of the Sultans
of the Tughlak Dynasty.

With the advent of modern technology and global connectivity, the Pakistanis have found
a global reach for their Pan-Islamist produce.

Mumbai-26/11 is a clear and unignorable sign of these times.


As I see things, peace in this region cannot be had unles the issue of Pakistan is
resolved for its Pakistan that's the real problem, not Kashmir. Right from the beginning
Pakistan had a problem with its identity - moderate or islamic, secular or monolithic -
and has been governed by two conflicting ideologies, China and the US and has not
been able to decide betwen democracy and military governments.

Add to that that despotic oil kingdom with its ill-goten wealth starting heaven-seeker
factories makes things even more complicated.

A nation that has never been able to arrive at a popular vision agreed to by the majority
cannot be trusted or relied upon to live in peace just because it has signed a pact.
To believe it will work is flawed thinking.

Common Paksitanis opinion does not matter a hill of beans. But our one vote counts
a huge lot. Freedom is something we do not frit away. WE need to protect and cherish
it. For that we need to be assertive, both diplomatically and militarily. Whats stopping
India from crossing LoC and hitting few ragtag building and coming back ?

Thats exactly what we need to do without being apologetic about it. And then face the
international pressure and be as assertive as what it needs to be. After Mumbai-26/11,
there is no point in continuing being a victim. The whole world knows where the epi-center
for this menu lies. Indians have to learn and get up to be assertive. Thats all.

But we still look like we are light years away from conducting an 'Entebee',
even though this tin pot Generals' Kingdom is no better than that of Idi Amins.
