YOUTH'S DEATH: DOCS PROTEST

Chandigarh May 21:
Following a doctor being attacked after a youth had died at his hospital near Nakodar, the incident has triggered spontaneous agitation by doctors in Nakodar.
Countering the claim, Yash Sharma, president elect of the IMA, said, "The patient's family was explained about the risk to the patient's life since it was a serious head injury." Later, doctors also held a protest at the hospital. SK Kalia, SP, said, "We have already rounded up nine persons involved in the attack on the doctor and for damaging his property."
"A case under Sections 307, 149, 342 and 506 of the IPC for rioting, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation has been registered,"said Nirmal Singh, SHO. Commenting on the demand of the patient's relatives, Kalia said, "The law mandates that a case under IPC can be registered against a doctor only after a medical board, especially constituted for the task, certifies that there has been negligence. We will get the post mortem done and wait for the report."
But the relatives, however, are in no mood to relent. By late evening a decision had been taken by the protesters to not cremate the body and block the road by placing it there.
