BARNALA: Residents of KC Road in the heart of Barnala town woke up to the murder of a smalltime trader who was done to death in the wee hours of Saturday outside his house.

According to sources, Ganesh Pal, 31, was returning home after arriving from Delhi by the Kalka Mail at 3 am at the time of incident.

"He had gone to Delhi with his cousin to make some purchases and when their train reached here at 3 in the morning, the two parted ways, with the cousin heading for his house at the other side of the town," said the deceased's maternal uncle Gopal Krishan.

When Pal was almost home, he was reportedly attacked by some unidentified persons with sharp-edged weapons. "Pal must have struggled with his assailants as his hands bore a great deal of injuries," added Krishan.

The incident reportedly came to light at 4 am, after which the police was informed immediately. SP (D) Mohinderpal Singh Shokar said, "The police have started investigations after registering a murder case against unknown persons."

Pal used to supply milk to various houses in his neighbourhood in the morning and during the day, he sold wares for women from a makeshift roadside shop in the bazaar.
