Ludhiana October 19:
On September 30, three murders were reported from different areas of the city. During investigations, the police found that two of these crimes were committed by close relatives of the deceased.
While in one case a man was killed by his son, the other murder was committed by the brother of the deceased. Atma Singh, who worked as a watchman, was allegedly killed by his son Gurdeep Singh. A youth, Harinder Singh, according to the police, was murdered by his brother Narinder Singh. Both the accused have been arrested.
These two cases are not the isolated example of murders committed by relatives. In a short span of one month, at least eight such incidents have come to light from in and around the city. On October 1, the police claimed to have solved the case of murder of one Rishipal, with the arrest of his son Sunny Mehra and deceased’s brother-in-law Mukesh Kumar along with three others. Rishipal was found murdered on February 6 this year.
Earlier, one Randhir Singh was shot dead by his nephew near Raikot on September 28. Two days before that, one Rajesh Kumar had strangulated his wife Rinku to death in Baba Namdev Nagar and later hid the body in a trunk. On September 25, in a gruesome incident, ex-armyman Lakhvir Singh allegedly butchered to death his father and brother at Kotla Bharri village near Khanna. Lakhvir also severely injured his mother, another brother, brother’s wife, and his six-year-old nephew.
It’s not only men who have been accused of killing their family members and relatives. The Ludhiana rural (Jagraon) police have arrested one Jatinderpal Kaur for hatching conspiracy to kill her NRI husband Basant Singh, whose body was found on September 23. According to the police, Jatinderpal, along with her nephew Baljinder Singh, with whom she is alleged to have illicit relations, had planned to kill her husband. The police said she had hatched the conspiracy when she was in Finland with her husband.
The husband, who returned home on September 15, was kidnapped from outside a dhaba at Jagraon on September 19 and his body was found on September 23. The police also arrested Baljinder with three others in connection with the murder. While these cases were reported within a short span, the police ruled out that the law and order situation was out of control in the district. Gurpreet Singh Toor, SP (Detective), said: “Our investigations revealed.
