JAIPUR: Students were reaching Rajasthan College to take their last paper of the LLB first-year exam. It was 6.45 in the morning. A cloudy but peaceful day. Nobody could have had an inkling of what was to happen.

Just outside the college gate, a white Hyundai Accent screeched to a halt and four men stepped out. Before anyone could figure out what was going on, they had pulled out a student sitting in a white Maruti 800 and was attacking him with sharp weapons and iron rods. Then they fired three shots at his car and escaped.

The student, identified as Yogesh Sharma (32), lay profusely bleeding as panicky students rushed to find help. A police van parked near the college took Yogesh to Sawai Man Singh Hospital, where he is now admitted in the poly-trauma ward.

This was the first such incidence of violence on the college campus.

Later, it turned out that Yogesh, who was doing his LLB, was also a history-sheeter with 16 cases lodged against him in the Vidyadhar Nagar police station. Police said he was attacked by his business partner with whom he had fallen out.

According to the Gandhi Nagar police, Yogesh and his close friend Naveen Sharma worked as cable operators but a few months back, the two quarreled and turned rivals. After interrogating Yogesh in hospital, the police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Naveen, Laxman Singh, Shashi Sharma and Lulli.

Gandhi Nagar SHO Asad Khan said, "After dropping his family members at Commerce College, Yogesh went to Rajasthan College to take his LLB examination. He was waiting outside in his Maruti 800 car (RJ14 CD 1574) for the exams to begin." That is when the Accent arrived and the violence followed. The police also said while escaping the four even tried to run Yogesh over as he lay bleeding on the road.

Another official said the police have recovered a mobile phone and a sharp-edged weapon from the spot. The police have also rounded up eight persons and are interrogating them.
