Villagers from five nyaya panchayats under Nainbagh tehsil in Tehri district have decided to oppose any move of including them in proposed Yamunotri district, which will be carved out of Uttarkashi if the proposal is approved by the state government.
People from Mogi, Shrikot, Myani, Kempty and Dwargad villages, in a Mahapanchayat called at Nainbagh today, expressed their anger against the BJP MLA from Purola for raising the issue of carving out Yamunotri district without the consent of the state government.
The villagers alleged that Purola MLA Mal Chand was creating division among them by raising such an issue as most of them were in favour of staying in Tehri district. Jaunpur block president Jot Singh Rawat condemned Mal Chand’s act alleging that it was creating division among the villagers in the Jaunpur block.
Former zila panchayat vice president Meera Saklani said Godar and Khatar Patti were taken out from Jaunpur block in the past and the division of the block would not be tolerated at any cost in future.
Most of the public representatives said they would never go in Yamunotri district but they would seriously consider if any plan of creating Mussoorie district came up.
The demand of carving out Yamunotri district out of Uttarkashi is old and has gained momentum after Purola MLA Mal Chand supported it by conducting meetings in Jaunpur and other blocks in the past few months.
Former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had announced carving out Yamunotri district during his tenure but no action was taken with the change in the government in the state. Another dispute over whether Purola or Barkot should be the district headquarters has left the people divided.
