Vice President denounces terrorism

Denouncing all acts of violence and terrorism, Vice President Hamid Ansari said all social problems could be resolved within the provisions of the Constitution of the country.

''The solution to all social problems lies in Indian Constitution and there is no need to go out of the ambit of the Constitution to find solutions by way of violent acts and adopting anti-national acts like terrorirsm,'' he said while speaking at the Shahid Parivar Fund Distribution function organised by the management of the Hind Samachar Group of Publications.

Dr Ansari said it was but natural that problems did raise heads in the country like India having diversity of many religions, castes, communities and languages. But the solution to these problems could not be found by way of acts of terrorism and violence. He said the Constitution had not only provided fundamental rights to the citizens of India but also described in clear terms about the subjects of rights, duties and relations of the Centre and states.

He said the terrorists were wrong if they thought that with their violent acts, they were just harming the government. ''By their acts, they cause damage to the commonman, common people, common women and even the children who have to bear the brunt of their anger.'' He asked the society to come forward to help the victims of terrorism as the efforts being made by the government for the rehabilitation of the terrorist-affected people by way of announcing compensatory amounts were not sufficient.

Lauding the efforts of the Hind Samachar Group for helping the families of the victims of terrorism financially, the Vice President said such efforts not only created an atmosphere of confidence among the aggrieved but also helped in maintaining peace and harmony. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal assured the audience that terrorism would not be allowed to raise its head again in the state. He appealed to the people not to retaliate in response to hapeenings outside the state.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, PPCC President Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Punjab Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia were among others who addressed the function. As many as 151 families of terrorist victims were distributed a sum of Rs 22.65 lakh at the function. Editor-in-Chief of the Hind Samachar Group of newspapers Vijay Chopra thanked the Vice President and other dignitaries for being present on the occasion.
