UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev has asked officers of the Transport Department to examine the Delhi’s formula for plying of vehicles with odd and even numbers on alternate days for the implementation in the city and car-free day.
Dev said the Administration was committed to provide clean air to residents. He said that after examining the proposal with all the angles, the decision would be taken in the coming days . Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IG) RP Upadhyay sent a proposal to Dev for plying of vehicles with odd and even numbers on alternate days.
As per the proposal, vehicles with odd and even registration numbers should ply on alternate days. This will reduce the traffic volume on the roads. Besides this, there is a proposal to organise a ‘car-free’ week to spread awareness about burgeoning traffic.
The Adviser also directed the Transport Department to make all the CTU buses GPS-enabled by March. He also directed them to complete the process for the procurement of the remaining 130 more buses within the financial year.
Dev asked the officers to make more buses available for the residents at night. Due to the shortage of staff, the department found it difficult to increase the number of buses at night. This leaves the commuters on the mercy of the auto drivers who charge high rates from them at night.
