Nineteen postgraduates and 17 graduates were among 96 recruit constables of the UT police who passed out at a parade held at the Police Lines, Sector 26, today.
Interestingly, Haryana and Punjab have an equal number of recruits while the remaining are from Chandigarh and other neighbouring states.
Constable Mohit, who stood first in the indoor examination and second in outer tests, is a BTech in mechanical engineering from a private college in Barwala near Panchkula.
An elated Mohit said his dream had finally come true.
Jaspreet Singh, who was among the recruits, is an MSc in information technology (IT). Several other recruits had done MBA, BCA and BBA. Forty-six recruits were Class XII pass out, the minimum qualification for getting recruited as a constable in the Chandigarh Police. Of the 96 recruits, 42 are females. Fifteen among the new recruits are married. Fourteen constables are from a police background while eight have been recruited on compassionate grounds. Police officials said the constables had been given exposure to criminal law, medical jurisprudence and human rights. They had also been imparted training in mob control and weapon handling. Special workshops on issues such as cyber crime, bank frauds and gender sensitisation were also held during the nine-month training.
