A delegation of transporters from Faridabad and Gurgaon met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Chandigarh today in connection with their long-pending demands, including relief from a ban on oversized goods vehicles in the state.
They also demanded an investigation into alleged irregularities in the registration plates of commercial vehicles.
Subhash Kaushik, general secretary, All-Faridabad Transport Association, said the delegation met the Chief Minister after a formal invitation was extended to it by the Transport department authorities in response to a request made by them.
The state government had, in January this year, banned 20,000 oversized goods vehicles, usually used for ferrying automobiles, from plying. The ban will come into force from January 1, 2016.
“The transporters have been demanding of the government not to enforce the ban in the interest of the transport industry,” Kaushik said.
He claimed any abrupt ban on oversized vehicles registered in the state was unjustified. “Such vehicles are being registered in other states. This was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister during the meeting today. He agreed to set up a committee to look into the matter and take a decision next month.”
“Nearly 1,500 commercial vehicles that are 10 years or more old do not ply in the wake of a ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), while transporters will have to bear an additional cost of at least Rs 2 lakh for right sizing the oversized vehicles,” Kaushik said.
He claimed the delegation was assured of an action soon in this regard.
Payment of fees, taxes: CM tells Transport Dept to prepare online system
Chandigarh: CM Manohar Lal Khattar today directed the Transport Department to prepare an online system for the payment of all types of fee, taxes and other payments of commercial vehicles. Khattar was presiding over a meeting with representatives of transporters’ associations here today. Officials stated that the Centre had prepared a software— ‘Vaahan and Saarthi’ version 4.0 —which had been circulated to all states, including Haryana. He said this software was being customised as per the state’s requirements with the assistance of the National Informatics Centre (NIC). This software would not only help in keeping a check on corruption but also facilitate vehicle owners.
While taking strict note of the complaints regarding unprecedented delay in issuing high-security registration plates (HSRP) of commercial vehicles despite depositing the requisite fee, the Chief Minister directed the department to take stern action against the contractor.
Khattar also directed the department to check commercial vehicles registered in Nagaland but plying in the state. He said it had been noticed that 2006 model vehicles passed in Nagaland in 2011 were plying illegally in the state. He also directed the department that information regarding a vehicle’s size like length, height and width should be mentioned in the fitness certificate being issued to commercial vehicles so that the vehicles registered in the state were not challaned in other states. He said a new system of dealer point registration was also being evolved. He directed the department to take up the matter with HUDA regarding developing transport nagars at Gurgaon and Faridabad.
