Teen gangraped; 6 youths booked

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from the city and gangraped by a group of youths four days ago near Kurali in Punjab. The victim and her parents approached cops on Tuesday night and after initial inquiry, a case was registered in Sector-11 police station.

No arrests had been made till the filing of this report.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night. According to information, the victim is a resident of Dhanas. She was on her way to the tuition when a youth of Milk Colony, Dhanas, Gaurav, allegedly kidnapped her in a black Zen. Two others 'Ashoki and Avtar' were reportedly also in the vehicle. The accused took the minor to Mianpur village, near Kurali.

Police said three youths joined them there and gangraped the girl, before dropping her near her house.

Police have identified the accused as Gaurav, Ashoki, Avtaar, Sukhi, Noni and Lucky, all residents of various areas in Dhanas.

Though cops couldn't nab anybody till Wednesday evening, sources said they had got leads about some of them.

"The victim and her parents brought the matter before police on Tuesday night. As three days had already lapsed, the accused had already fled. Teams have been sent to find the accused," an official of the investigation team told TOI.

Sources in Chandigarh police said initial probe had suggested that the victim and Gaurav knew each other, and that the vehicle used in the crime belonged to Avtar.

A case of kidnapping and gangrape under sections 376-G, 363, and 366-A of IPC has been registered in police station, Sector 11.

"We have registered the case on the statement of the victim and began a probe," inspector Sukhbir Rana said.
