Post Taxi driverís murder case cracked: Cops

Ludhiana July 5:
Crime Police also stumbled upon a two-year-old blind murder case; both cases Ďsolvedí While investigating the murder of a taxi driver, who was brutally stabbed to death last week, the Basti Jodhewal police stumbled upon a two-year-old unsolved murder case.
With the arrest of two persons, including a constable of the Railway Police, the police have not only solved the taxi driverís murder but also the two-year-old murder committed by the same person. The arrested persons include Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Kapil Dev, a resident of Nawanshahar and his accomplice Amrit Lal alias Hira, a resident of Indra Vihar colony in the city.
SSP (Urban) RK Jaiswal told mediapersons that with the arrest of the duo, the police have also solved another blind murder committed on April 27, 2006, in the Salem Tabri area. A youth, Vicky, a resident of Salem Tabri, was murdered by some unknown persons in 2006. Jaiswal said Amrit Lal along with another youth Sooraj had killed Vicky as they suspected that Vicky had illicit relations with Soorajís sister-in-law (bhabhi).
SSP Jaiswal, who was accompanied by SP City III S S Cheema, DSP (Rural) Paramjit Singh Pannu and Basti Jodhewal SHO Balwinder Singh, said that Amrit Lal had committed both the murders. Jaiswal said the police investigations into the murder of taxi driver Balbir Singh revealed that Kapil Dev had relations with a dancer, who was part of the orchestra group, whom Balbir Singh used to pick up and drop at various functions.
ďBalbir Singh got close to her. This made Kapil Dev jealous and he hatched a plan to get Balbir eliminated,Ē the SSP added. The district police chief said that Kapil Dev knew that Amrit Lal had committed another murder two years ago for which he was never arrested. Kapil persuaded Amrit Lal to kill Balbir.
Narrating the sequence of events, SSP Jaiswal said the duo went to Jalandhar bypass on June 28 and called Balbir Singh. As Balbir Singh knew Kapil Dev, he did not suspect anything. After consuming liquor, they stabbed Balbir Singh to death.
SSP Jaiswal said that the police had also recovered the knife with which Balbir Singh was killed. The SSP said that the search was also on for Sooraj, who was a co-accused in the murder of Vicky two years ago.
