Symposium on research in science, healthcare begins

A two-day symposium on “Perspectives on Research in Science and Healthcare” organized by the Sardar Bhagwan Singh Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research in association with the Uttarakhand Council of Biotechnology began here today.
The event is being attended by about 400 participants from different institutions like Forest Research Institute, Uttarakhand Technical University, DIT University, HNB Garhwal University, DAV College, Uttaranchal University, Sai Institute, Autonomous PG College Rishikesh, Guru Ram Rai Institute, Prem Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation College, Panipat; IPS College Ghaziabad and GMS College Jammu and MM Univerity Mullana.
The event started with lighting of the lamp by Institute Director Prof FC Garg accompanied with invited speakers and HoDs of different departments of the institute, followed by institute prayer and release of a souvenir. Prof Garg welcomed all scientists, educationists, resource persons, faculty members and students. In the scientific session, Dr Venkatesh Srinivasa Pai (consultant rheumatologist, Synergy Hospital, Dehradun) delivered a lecture on “Immunity and Auto-immunity: Two Sides of the Same Coin”. A lecture on “Health Care from Natural Products” by Dr Vineet Kumar (Scientist, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun) was an insight towards use of medicines based on phtyto-constituents in medicine. Dr Deepak Kumar (HoD and sr consultant manipulative physiotherapist, Capri Institute of Manual Therapy, Delhi) explained on physiotherapy treatment.
The poster session featured about 70 posters in the three different categories and the winners were awarded with prizes.
