Muktsar January 15:

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal gave a clarion call to the people of the State in ensuring that the pace of development is maintained.

The resurgent SAD blew the election bugle with Badal giving a call to the people to defeat nefarious arrangement of “anti-Punjab Congress party with anti-pro poor subsidy deserters from the Akali Dal.” In the largest ever conference witnessed in the history of Maghi Mela at Mukatsar with lakhs of Akali workers thronging the rally, Sukhbir averred that in February 2012 elections people of Punjab are set to decimate the Congress and its new found allies and would ensure highest ever victory for the SAD.

He said that his party would even win Gidderbaha seat with a record margin, which is currently held by former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal. Enthused by the crowd of lakhs of workers, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that in his 50-year long political career it was the largest political rally at Maghi Mela witnessed by him.

Hitting out at the Congress-led UPA for discriminating against Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that it was ironical that the Congress party in Punjab was silent witness to all these discriminations. He said that a State contributing 70 per cent to the national food grain pool gets only one per cent of national agriculture debt waiver fund and Punjab Congress remains silent.

Speaking about the development initiatives of the SAD-BJP Government, Badal said that it was record that the SAD-BJP Government has initiated development and infrastructure works with combined investment Rs 1 lakh crore which include Rs 20,000 crore Bathinda Refinery, six thermal plants with combined investment of Rs 52,000 crore and roads and bridges with investment of Rs 17,000 crore.

Giving the credit to the SAD-BJP Government for changing the economy of Malwa region, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the people of Muktsar should recall those black days when this whole area was water logged and land owners even having 100 acre of land were forced to do labour jobs as their land was totally unproductive.

He said that he was happy that economy of this region could witness a sea change due to unstinted efforts of Parkash Singh Badal. The Deputy Chief Minister said that he was the happiest person in getting accomplished the mission of computerising land records and brining out required changes in the revenue Acts.

He said that with these changes land owners would not have to suffer in the courts in the simple cases of partition of their land as revenue cases have been made time bound and the level of appeals have been reduced from 15 to 5. He said that under the new changes, the cases could not be remanded back by any appellate authority resulting in undue delay in the cases.1 lakh crore which include Rs 20,000 crore Bathinda Refinery, six thermal plants with combined investment of Rs 52,000 crore and roads and bridges with investment of Rs 17,000 crore.
