Bangalore: A 20-year-old first year student of Baldwin College was shot dead early on Sunday morning when he intruded into the Flag Staff House in Bangalore.

Army guards shot at him presuming him to be an intruder/terrorist after he entered a Brigadier's residence and tried to flee as the guards came to apprehend him.

The student identified as Mohammad Mukarram was drag racing along with some of his friends on MG Road, a prominent area of Bangalore, when police warned and chased the students.

Mukarram ran away from the spot and entered the Flag Staff House located on Airport Road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) BK Singh said the student, pursuing a bachelor's degree in commerce, allegedly did not surrender when asked to do so by the sentries, who then opened three rounds of fire.

Mukarram was taken to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Senior army officers of the Sub Area of Karnataka and Kerala said that in the early hours of Sunday around 0100 hrs IST, a man managed to enter the Flag Staff House.

After a thorough search the sentries on guard saw a person on the top of the house.

Before the guards could apprehend the intruder, he jumped down and fled towards the compound wall towards the main road.

When the intruder did not heed the armed guard's warning to surrender, the intruder was fired upon. The police are investigating the case
