The state unit of the BJP, managed by the RSS for all political strategies, seems to be waiting for a call from the Centre to go ahead with government formation.
Though the directive is likely to come only after PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti meets Central BJP leaders, the party claims to be placed well to form the government.
Two days after submitting the party’s position on government formation to Governor NN Vohra, state BJP president Sat Sharma said the party was working vigorously towards early formation of government and things would be normal soon.
The state president dismissed allegations that party was beseeching Mehbooba for an early announcement of her willingness to take over as Chief Minister.
“The coalition was formed on a common minimum programme with detailed deliberations over distribution of ministries. Both parties and their leaders had been doing well in their respective ministries. The case of beseeching or appeasing anyone does not arise,” said Sharma.
He said the party had the reputation of an organisational structure nationally so major decisions could not be taken in alienation without taking the party high command in the loop. “This is the essence of a national party that survives in the long term,” he said.
The BJP president refrained from speaking on the party’s behalf on any consideration of going in for fresh elections or the likelihood of some tacit tie-up with the NC if the PDP continued delaying tactics on government formation.
“We do not believe in political manoeuvring for the sake of power. We have been voted to power by the people of Jammu. Our leaders decided to go with the PDP after great efforts on preparing the Agenda of Alliance. It is a visionary document of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” said Sharma.
He claimed that his party had given a clearer and more transparent government in the state than the ‘corrupt regime’ of the Congress.
“Not a single case of corruption or dishonest executions of ministerial work was reported from the BJP in its 10-month rule in the state. There could have been some delays in implementing time-consuming features of the Agenda of Alliance, but it was prepared with a holistic framework to cover six-year tenure of the government in the state,” he said.
On returning power projects, the state BJP president clarified that the development agenda head in the Agenda of Alliance clearly read that the state government would work with the Union Government to explore modalities for transfer of Dulhasti and Uri hydro power projects to J&K.
On the issue of smart cities, he said the Agenda of Alliance included developing two mega cities — greater Srinagar and greater Jammu, along with developing two satellite towns — new Srinagar and new Jammu. “Give us our due time in governance and everything will be translated into action,” he said.
