Stampede At Dera Hq Leaves 5 Women Dead
Latenight celebrations to mark the foundation day of the Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa turned ominous when devotees, reportedly numbering a lakh, started running helter-skelter following a major dust storm, leaving five women dead and several others injured on Thursday.
The incident took place outside Gate No 3 around midnight in which five women devotees were killed and two persons, including a woman, sustained injuries, said Sirsa deputy commissioner, Yudhvir Singh Khyalia, adding, the injured are being treated in Dera Hospital and they are out of danger.
The district administration reportedly learned of the episode only when bodies had been brought to civil hospital for a postmortem examination.
Expressing grief, chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and free medical treatment to all injured. Registering a case under Section 174 of CrPC, SP Satender Gupta said the accident was being investigated.
