Lucknow: Upset that she had turned down his proposal, a teacher in Uttar Pradesh shot his colleague inside a classroom and then killed himself, police said yesterday.
While Bunty Prakash was killed instantly, his would-be love interest Neha Kumari is battling for her life.
The incident occurred at Aadarsh Junior School in Marhera, Etah, where Prakash barged into Kumari's class and shot her. The spurned suitor then consumed poison and died.
Doctors referred the victim to Agra as her condition deteriorated.
"Though we are yet to ascertain the exact reason... preliminary investigations reveal that the woman teacher had recently turned down Bunty Prakash's marriage proposal. This could probably be the reason that prompted Bunty to take the extreme step," police said.
