Chandigarh April 29:

Former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal’s most trustworthy and closest associate, rebel Akali MLA Jagbir Brar’s resignation has been accepted by the Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon.

“Brar is in Delhi and was informed on the phone about the acceptance of his resignation,” said the Speaker while speaking to The Pioneer. Brar has to come before the Speaker on Thursday after submitting his resignation from the Legislative Assembly on April 24. Kahlon said: “Brar was in Delhi for some personnel work though he called me requesting to accept his resignation and I accepted it. However, MLA Manjinder Singh Kang has not been yet given his resignation.”

With the acceptance of Brar’s resignation two MLA seats have become vacant in the State. Manpreet Badal had already resigned before the announcement of his party on March 26. The Speaker had accepted his resignation on April 13 and had also issued notice to two others, Manjinder Singh Kang and Jagbir Brar, both Akali MLAs, who were supporting Manpreet’s new People’s Party of Punjab.

Brar, MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment, has already resigned his primary membership of the SAD. He said the ruling Akali-BJP Government had failed to address the concerns of the common man and was promoting nepotism and corruption pushing the State towards a financial emergency. A few days ago, PPP chief Manpreet claimed that the SAD-BJP are wary of the by-elections seeing the enormous support of the people for his party. “An insecure Government does not want by-elections now as it can swing voting in the State,” Manpreet had said.
