Mumbai: Nearly four months after they hijacked Italian tanker Enrico Ievoli, Somali pirates have finally released 18 crew members, including seven Indians, on-board the vessel.

The vessel, owned by the Italian shipping company Marnavi, was hijacked by the Somali pirates while it was on its way from Iran to Yumurtalik in Turkey on the morning of December 27 last year. The vessel had sailed with 15,750 metric tonnes of caustic soda from Fujairah (UAE).

"We have been informed that the hijacked MT Enrico Ievoli has been released and the vessel is currently proceeding towards a safe port, where crew will disembark and be repatriated to their respective homes," a senior official of the Mumbai-based Indian Directorate General of Shipping said here yesterday.
