Six killed in accident in Punjab

Tarn Taran (Punjab), July 24 (IANS) Six people were killed and 12 injured when a private bus collided with a combine harvester - a big vehicle used in fields to harvest crops - in this border district of Punjab Thursday. The accident took place when the driver of the combine harvester lost control of the vehicle and collided with the bus, said Tarn Taran district police chief H.S. Chahal. The accident occurred on the Tarn Taran-Ferozepore highway near here. The bus was on its way from Kot Kapura town to Pathankot in north Punjab.
The injured have been rushed to the district hospital here and four of them were said to be in critical condition.
The police have impounded the combine harvester and registered a case against its driver, who fled the spot, Chahal said.
