Six die in two separate Kerala incidents

Thiruvananthapuram: Two incidents, one of them involving Malayalam actor Thilakan, has claimed six lives in Kerala.

Four youths from Fort Kochi, who were on their way for pilgrimage to the famed Malayatoor hill shrine lost their lives in the Periyar river, when they drowned early yesterday while swimming in the river. The youngsters, all reportedly in their early twenties, were planning to observe the Good Friday rituals at Malayatoor.

The youth were identified as Jerry, Bineesh, Kannan and Jibin. The bodies of the four were taken for postmortem examination to a hospital in Perumbavoor.

In north Kerala, the incident involving Thilakan took the lives of two children on Thursday. According to reports, the car in which Thilakan was travelling rammed into an autorickshaw on the Pandikad-Wandoor stretch in Malappuram district.

The children who were killed were identified as siblings Farzeen Khan (6) and Fathima Fida (2). Their father Firoz was reportedly driving the rickshaw and their mother Jazina was also in the vehicle. Both parents, who were seriously injured, were shifted to a hospital in Manjeri.

Thilakan and his co-passenger were admitted to a hospital in Perinthalmanna, and the actor was later referred for observation in the cardiology department.
