Dubai: The Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday convicted three women and three men after they were found guilty of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, running a brothel, prostitution and rape. Three Uzbek women and two Afghan men were sentenced to three years in jail for selling a 22-year-old Kyrgyz woman for Dh118,000 for sexual purposes. Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad also found the three women guilty of engaging in prostitution and will be penalised with six months imprisonment. Two of the women, N.T. and K.S. will also serve six months in jail for running a brothel. One of the Afghan defendants and a Bangladeshi carpenter were handed a three-year jail term for raping the Kyrgyz victim at knifepoint. All the accused will be deported after serving their sentences. Records said the 22-year-old victim was promised that she would work as a pastry chef in Dubai.

Man acquitted of molestation charges

Dubai: A 38-year-old Emirati man has been acquitted of charges that he sexually abused a compatriot inside a prison cell where they are both detained. Prosecutors accused S.S. of molesting and abusing his 24-year-old cellmate, F.A., who claimed he was sedated when the alleged crime happened. They claimed that the accused took advantage of the victim who was reportedly in deep sleep after he took a sedative but the court said they lack evidence.
