The shadow of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), a separatist group seeking establishment of sovereign Assam through armed struggle, hangs on the Assembly elections.

Though the major faction of ULFA, led by its chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, has said it has nothing to do with elections, the banned organisation still remains a threat as the anti-talk faction of Paresh Baruah is openly opposed to the holding of elections.

The anti-talk faction issued a threat to Congress members and workers attacked the Congress party headquarters with an explosive device recently giving rise to speculations that covertly the faction was supporting the AGP and the BJP.

"The ULFA has adopted a partisan attitude as it is issuing threats to the Congress alone and not to the BJP and AGP," chief minister Tarun Gogoi said.
