The family of Satish Tomar, who was rescued from the tunnel after nine days, is preparing for his homecoming at Tarro in Paonta Sahib.
His father Sham Singh Tomar, who works in a local primary school, and mother Gita Tomar said they would hold a religious ceremony to thank the local deity.
His uncle Joginder said after Satish’s discharge from the hospital, he, along with his brothers Vinod and Dalip, would pay obeisance at Naini Devi Temple.
He said they would also visit Shirgul Temple and Mata Thaari Devi, the local deity. The family would also hold a feast for the people at Churdhar. “The local deity not only guided them in keeping their hopes alive during the nine-day period, but also assured them that he would come back safely,” said a local villager.
Satish was fortunate to have survived for the second time. He had faced a similar situation a few years ago too, though the peril was much shorter, said Manish Kumar, a local youth.
With a few employment avenues available in the Aanj Bhoj area, youths take to tunnel excavation. “As the work enables a person to send Rs 10,000-Rs 15,000 to his family every month, the youths undertake the risk-prone work in Kinnaur, Sikkim, Bhutan, Shimla and Mandi,” said GS Chauhan, a local.
