In a blatant and brutal abuse of power, MLA of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Sripath Azad Dhobi, has set a woman on fire on Monday night (March 14) in Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh.
The woman, Savitri Devi, has been admitted to hospital and is undergoing treatment in Gorakhpur Medical College.
Mahesh Kumar, son of the victim, said, "My mother served him food. He got angry and threw the plate. After that he set her on fire and escaped through the window." An FIR has been registered by the victim's son under IPC section 326.
The MLA is absconding and is reportedly in the Dudwal district of Nepal. Meanwhile, the police has said that they have filed an FIR and that an investigation is on.
