SADIQ SAYS HE WAS THREATENED TO OWN UP 7/11 BLASTS

Mumbai March 13:
Mohammad Sadiq Shaikh, alleged operative of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM), told the special MCOCA court here that he was threatened by one Atif, killed in the Batla House encounter in Delhi, to own up the 7/11 serial train blasts in the western metropolis.

According to the February 21 court diary, Sadiq told the court that Atif from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh had threatened to kill his family if he did not take responsibility for the Mumbai train blasts. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had taken Sadiq into custody on February 21 to probe his involvement in the blasts case. It, however, does not mention when Atif had threatened Sadiq.

Atif, suspected to have masterminded the September 13 Delhi blasts, was killed in the September 19 Batla House encounter in Delhi's Jamia Nagar along with another IM member. Meanwhile, the special MCOCA court here today extended the police custody of Sadiq till March 21 after special counsel for ATS, Raja Thakare argued that further investigation needs to be conducted.

According to the remand application, the ATS wants to further interrogate Sadiq for some links they have got in connection with the case.
