Sadhvi planned blast to avenge friend’s death

Bengaluru: If the revelations of self-styled godman Dayanand Pandey, during his narco-analysis test in the city on Friday, are to be believed, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, one of the accused in the Malegaon blast, masterminded the incident to avenge the death of a close friend.

Pandey reportedly said that Pragya, also known as Sadhvi Purnachetnagiri, had sought his help to strike at SIMI, whom she suspected of killing Sunil Joshi, a RSS leader, in Indore. “She was furious and wanted to eliminate the SIMI activists. We chose Malegaon as it was dominated by Muslims, and Hindus there were suffering at the hands of Muslims,” Pandey said.

Pandey reportedly admitted that he introduced Pragya to Lt Col S P Purohit, another Malegaon blasts accused.

Pragya was also angry with RSS leaders who were in touch with SIMI members, Pandey further said. Hence, she hatched a plan to kill the leaders, but the plan failed.

Lt Col Purohit, during his narco test, had reportedly referred to a plan to attack RSS and VHP leaders for not taking up the cause of Hindus. Pandey also said that the RDX was obtained from Kashmir and taken to Pune.

A person named Mohammed Gilani was paid ‘lakhs’ to transport the explosive. Then Ramji, an associate, along with another person, placed the bombs on a motorcycle in Malegaon.

Major (retd) Upadhya, another Malegaon blast accused, had during his narco test said he worked under Purohit’s direction and monitored the assembling of the bombs. Six bombs were used in the blast, he revealed.
